The Top 12 Disney Afternoon Cartoon Shows

In the 1990s Disney fiercely reclaimed its place as an animation contender, by putting out a series of creatively done animated shows. They starting on Saturday morning where they did well enought, but then they were rolled into a block of afternoon animated shows and the rest was history. The Disney afternoon kept growing and went through a few incarnations that spanned the entire 90s. All good things come to end and with new strict child advertisement restrictions, TDA eventually was moved off broadcast TV. Many of the shows continued in fractured syndication. To the happiness of many fans most of these shows found a 2nd (and 3rd and 4th) life on the brand new cable channel Toon Disney.

  1. I agree that Gummi Bears was a fantastic show, but I'd have to put Gargoyles at the top of the list. It also has "original characters, an interesting universe and a great theme song," but it one-ups Gummi Bears in a key area: story development. Throughout the first two seasons Gargoyles has interesting and changing character motivations, character development, multiple story threads, and significant show-changing events. Not to mention a storyline that spans centuries and includes historical, mythical, and Shakespearean figures. Also, the staying power of Gargoyles is unprecedented. Its massive universe continues to be expanded years after cancellation by the show's creator in question-and-answer form (, an ongoing comic book (, and a yearly convention (

I think all of the above and more makes Gargoyles the best animated series the West has produced, much less the best of the Disney Afternoon. None of this is a slight to Gummi Bears--it was an inspiration for Gargoyles after all.

  2. eh, i never cared for the gummi bears before it was on disney afternoon (which was a needless thing to do IMO, they just took a slot away from a new different show that could have been produced for DA)for me talespin was the best, then ducktales, then CDRR, darkwing duck, goof troop, and then the rest with the gummi bears comming in somewhere near the tailend of the rankings.

anyways glad interest in darkwing duck and CDRR are getting revived to some extent with the comics, hopefully talespin is next......who knows, maybe a TV reboot of sorts is in order...that would make my day.
